EDGE HOTEL
Łódź, Poland

EDGE Hotel was designed with a passion for creating the unusual, individual and unique atmosphere. It's located in the center of Łódź, at the corner of Zachodnia and Ogrodowa Street. Location is unique just like the building itself. It's the neighborhood of the finest historical monuments of Łódź.

Front facade is facing the Palace of Izrael Kalmanowicz Poznański - the man who was one of the three Łódź 'Cotton Kings' of XIX century. From the west side the palace is surrounded by the factory which nowadays became a 17 hectare cultural and shopping center – Manufaktura. East side presents a beautiful Staromiejski Park.

Facades, mainly covered with mirrored glass, are hidden behind the giant concrete frames. Frames give an impression of a painting, a masterpiece - which, in this case, are reflected by the eclectic historical surroundings. The building literally lives the life of its environment – creating a sharp copy in the daytime and a mosaic composition of room interiors and dark sky at night.

The minimal form of the building is highlighted by a diagonal lines, the idea begins with skewing the front facade. Changing the angle gives a wider and extended reflection. This decision gives a design opportunity to create the walls and roof with zero thickness –
- the EDGE. The essential step to achive this effect was to push back the original concrete construction and replace it with the steel one in diagonal faces.
